Spinalonga

Spinalonga, often referred to as the island of isolation, is truly awe-inspiring for visitors. In the first half of the 20th century, a leper colony was established on Spinalonga, as individuals with Hansen’s Disease were transported there. The leprosarium operated until 1957, and the last resident left in 1962. Since then, the island has remained uninhabited, carrying a significant historical legacy.

How will you get to Spinalonga?

To reach Spinalonga, you must first go to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, or Plaka. From one of these locations, you can take a boat to the island. You’ll need to leave your car at the departure point.
