The Diktaean Cave, one of the most impressive caves on the island, is at an altitude of 1,025 meters on the slopes of the Dikti mountain range. According to mythology, this cave is where Rhea, the mother of Zeus, sought refuge to give birth to the god, hiding from Saturn, who was consuming his children. The cave has been used since Neolithic times as both a refuge and a place of worship. It covers an area of 2,200 square meters, featuring stunning stalactites and stalagmites.
